Palm Beach Maritime Museum
If boating, history, and marine living is your passion, then you are in for quite the treat while visiting the Palm Beach Maritime Museum. You have two different sites to investigate, as both sites fall under the leadership of the Maritime Museum. One site is the President John F. Kennedy Bunker and (former) Coast Guard Station that is located on Peanut Island, just near the Port of Palm Beach. The other site is the Museum that is located on North Flagler Drive in West Palm Beach in Currie Park. Both sites are interesting, intriguing, and they are places you will not want to miss.
At the Peanut Island site, you can visit the former Coast Guard Station, as well as see a protective, fallout shelter that was built during the Cuban Missile Crisis. This was built for then President, John F. Kennedy. Also on these grounds, you will find a Boathouse facility, which is often rented out to groups of people enjoying wedding festivities, business gatherings, or other celebratory events. The scenery is beautiful here and is very desirable for those folks that gather here.
At the Currie Park location, you can spend time strolling through the museum and education center, as you read and enjoy the various displays and exhibits that highlight the Palm Beach area’s history and maritime-themed development and influences. You can bask in the history lessons, as well as select some items from their gift shop, and stroll along the outside docks.
One recent visitor stated, “It’s very interesting if you enjoy boating. It has interesting things about old Palm Beach. I really enjoyed going to the museum”. Another person added, “Really cool. Very interesting history and a beautiful, peaceful place”.
If you decide to venture to the Palm Beach Maritime Museum, you should check their website or call them prior to your visit. The hours vary, and you should check to see if they are open before venturing there. The views are beautiful from both locations, so you will wish to allow time for relaxation around the grounds and enjoying their beauty, as well.
